Central Herts Petanque League

News

20.05.2019 Date of most recent results update.

--Chris
05.05.2019 Following a couple of queries, yes, it is intentional that the 1st July and 19th August are left free as catch up weeks.

--Chris
31.03.2019 Following the captain's meeting earlier in the year, I have added minutes and updated the Match Rules and put together a draft league table. Let me know what errors I've made!

I've also added pubs and/or team websites on to the pubs page - contact me if you want to add one that is not listed.

--Chris
23.10.2018 And so concludes the 2018 season - thanks to all the teams for playing and the captains for reporting results. I had a good time anyway, for those games I was available to play! Stay tuned for details of the next captain's meeting.

--Chris
09.10.2018 Assuming I've not made any catastrophic errors, I can't ever recall such a close finish to the season - currently the Old Bull's Head are on top, having finished all their games and have beaten Whitehill on games "for"... but some of the teams below have games in hand....!

--Chris
16.08.2018 Although some of this week's results are still to be put up, for anyone that thinks once you're 3-2 up on a Monday you might as well call it a night and stop playing, we're down to a tiny points difference being all that's between first and second place in the league with today's update!

--Chris
14.08.2018 Please note a typo on the old version of the fixture list. The game that is on row 23 of the spreadsheet should be played on 24th September, and not the 29th.

--Chris
17.05.2018 I'd like to thank the Bell at Standon, who hosted us (The Brown Bear) for a very competitive friendly on one of our bye weeks, this Monday just gone. If any pubs out there aren't in our league but would like to challenge a team for a friendly, one team has a bye each week so feel free to get something arranged. My contact details are in the match result PDF document if you would like to drop me a line to be put in touch with a league team.

--Chris
01.05.2018 And we're off - week one has been played! Note that because we've got an odd number of teams this year, each week one team will always have a bye. This week could be used to play friendlies against teams from other leagues, or against players interested in the sport but who can't regularly field a team of their own for a whole season.

--Chris
21.04.2018 After a couple of false starts, the new fixture list is now online. We've got seven teams this year, so will be playing a season and a half. The League table and results sheet can be found at here. I have also reviewed and updated the match rules to reconfirm that when a ball touches the rope it is out (albeit that this may be modified by local agreement) as well as a section on the point awarded for claimed games. I have also amended the constitution to reflect the name change (of about a decade ago!) to the Central Herts Petanque League and include a previously agreed clause that new players (who have not previously played during the season in this league) may join mid-season and be registered in the week following their first game.

--Chris
05.02.2018 Hello - so, we're getting things put in place for the new petanque season. Matt, as league chair has a new phone - 07512 079910; with league email address centralhertspetanque@gmail.com. A full email has gone out, let me know if you haven't received a copy. In summary, we're currently thinking of starting the league on Monday 23rd April. Whether we run a league and a half or a single league depends on whether we get any additional teams join. With that in mind, could all captains (other than the george, of course!) please approach their pubs to see if there is interest in a second team being fielded. As agreed at the October meeting, we're going to hold the start of season captain's meeting on Monday 19th March at 20:30 at the Brown Bear. Minutes of the October meeting etc. to follow.

--Chris
15.10.2017 I'm back and have updated the table; there's still some outstanding results - could you let me know the scores if you have them?
Also, Captain's Meeting is tomorrow, 16th October at the Brown Bear.

--Chris
31.08.2017 I'm going to be away for a little while; please continue to send results and I'll next update later in the season.

--Chris
06.06.2017 If anyone is reading this and has a pub or a team that would like to enter next year, or would like to be put in touch with some of our teams for friendlies this season, please contact me on the email address on the match report PDF.

--Chris
06.05.2017 So, we're all good to go. Please note that The Station are not entering this season. I have produced a new version of the spreadsheet, attached. Good luck all.

--Chris
05.04.2017 Hi all - I've put a draft league table on line for the 2017 season: League table and results. Let me know if any of it looks wrong! We may have a new entrant to fill the bye space - I'll update soon.

--Chris
16.08.2016 Thanks everyone for prompt results this week - it's all getting very close in terms of position in the table with everything still to play for!

--Chris
23.07.2016 After much deliberation, I have deleted the cricketers' results from the league. Apologies for those teams who managed to secure victories against them - this has had an impact upon the positions in the league table, but we feel that the only objective way to approach this situation was follow the constitution to the letter.

--Chris
08.07.2016 Important message - the Cricketers have pulled out of the league. I have updated the table today but haven't yet had a chance to figure out what to do with the cricketers results.
Cheers,

--Chris
02.05.2016 I've added the 2016 league table spreadsheet. I think that I've got all the "Home" and "Away" fixtures the right way round - for reference, the template spreadsheet tab gives the definitive schedule - please could you check this against the individual team pages and let me know if I've made any errors. In terms of catch up weeks, currently we have available bank holiday weeks, plus w/c 1st August, 26th September, and 3rd October.
Cheers,

--Chris
26.04.2016 Important! The Plume have moved to the The Hen & Chickens

--Chris
21.04.2016 Hello, as nobody's pointed out any mistakes we're going to go with the structure as proposed below. Cheers,

--Chris
30.03.2016 Hi everyone. Please find attached a proposed league structure based on the responses I've received. Given the number of teams, I think it best we play a single league in a traditional format. Could everyone check and let me know if I've made a total hash of it all! Cheers.

22.02.2016 Hi all, the new season will start after Easter. There will be a note sent around about a captain's meeting soon. If you want to be notified when this page changes, see the link available from this site - you should be able to enter your email address and the web page http://tonwell.net/news.htm as the website you want to monitor and it should just work (hopefully).

--Chris
09.12.2015 Hi all, I've spoken with Jeff who will be coming to collect trophies this side of Christmas. We are looking at holding a league meeting at around the beginning of February, more details will follow. We are still seeking volunteer(s) to the position of treasurer and someone (different?) to take over eventually from Jeff as league organiser. I will (subject to the will of the clubs, anyway!) be continuing in my role as leage organiser next year.

--Chris
18.10.2015 Well, final positions are up now - still my team's last game v the Station to play, but that won't affect the final standings. I will try and get in contact with Jeff re: match rules and trophies etc. Thanks everyone for prompt results and letting me know what's going on with rearranged matches etc. this season - it certainly makes my life easier!

--Chris
17.08.2015 Local rules and constitution.
When I set up the website, I lifted the rules and constitution from Rory's site - after discussion with Jeff, I think there are several pieces that are out of date, including the section on claimed games. I will try and get correct copies uploaded as soon as I can.

--Chris
30.07.2015 I've had a complaint from a landlord regarding people bringing their own soft drinks/mixers to petanque games; this is a reminder that (barring any local agreements) no alcoholic or non-alcoholic drinks which have not been bought at the pub should be consumed.

--Chris
14.07.2015 I think I've fixed the table sorting - it should now sort on (1) Matches Won, (2) Games Won, (3) Points difference. If it doesn't, let me know!

--Chris
24.06.2015 Corrected a div 2 result - Plume v George A which was the wrong way around. Also note that I need to fix the table sorting - it should sort on (1) Matches Won, (2) Games Won, (3) Points difference (which currently there is no column for). Watch this space!

--Chris
07.05.2015 Added Axemen v Old Bulls Head and Farmers v Cricketers. Also corrected a calculation issue in the division 2 spreadsheet which was causing odd sorting.

--Chris
04.05.2015 I had a few problems setting up the domain when I did so my email stopped working for a couple days last week. Please look at the spreadsheets and let me know if your results from last week are missing and what the score was (I know Axemen v Old Bulls Head is missing).

--Chris
03.05.2015 New website is now online. It's not very pretty, but given the cider at the pub isn't going to drink itself, so I've concentrated on making it functional. You may need Excel 2007 or above to read the spreadsheets - let me know if you really have difficulties, and I'll see if I can do any conversions to other formats.

Also, let me know if I've got scores or pub locations wrong - the spreadsheet was fairly complicated to set up.
